The ICAEW CPD update captures any ICAEW ACA member who provides “accountancy or finance work”, a broad definition. This applies to both new ACAs and experienced Partners and Managing Directors
The new rules distinguish between those in-practice and those out of practice. In-practice just means you work for an accountancy firm. The difference is that more of the CPD hours need to be verifiable if you are in-practice
If you are an ACA working in audit or tax, your category depends on the exact nature of the work you do¹
If you are an ACA out of practice sitting on the board of a company, your category depends on the exact nature of what the company does²
